I realized I had omitted Venite Adoremus from my playlist of new releases for 2010! So I’ve added it- it’s over there, now. Take a listen, if you haven’t yet, and see if you recognize the familiar melody on which it’s based. It’s fragmented and hinted at for a while in the piece, before eventually being quoted quite clearly…

I’ve been talking with a choral director in Texas about a commission for her high school choir for performance at the Texas Music Educator’s Association convention next February. Today she sent me sound files of her choir…WOW! No wonder they were one of three mixed choirs chosen from the whole state! I can’t wait to write for them, even though I’m going to squeezing it in, down to the wire on the deadline late this fall.
*I’ve added a new tab under “About Dan” for “Current Commissions”, listing some of what’s going on…
Also, on the wind band side of things, the wind band transcription of A Basque Lullaby has been selected for inclusion in the forthcoming Volume 8 of the venerable Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series. If you’re not familiar with this series (for band, or choir), suffice it to say- it’s a big deal!
The Lord has done great things, whereof we are glad!

See the new audio player over on the right, for audio files of my new choral music for 2010. Feel free to take a listen (and I hope the auto-play didn’t startle you!)

I don’t have a virtual choir (or cool hair) like Eric Whitacre. My virtual performance requires imagination. See if you can combine these two in your mind’s ear. (That’s what I’ve been doing every spare hour for the last week or two.)
